In a few hours it will be 9/11, which may or may not be a big deal to you. In a way it isn’t a big deal to me and in a way I guess it is. I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing and I remember a lot of little details that others don’t seem to. I’m guessing this means I find the day significant because normally I never remember details of a normal day. I also know that it was a world altering event and that thousands have died because of it and not just the people on the planes or in the buildings. Thousands of troops have given their lives in senseless wars that were mainly started because of 9/11.
They were talking on the radio today about remembering 9/11 and the host (who I normally agree with) said he’d like to see lots more channels playing the footage of the planes slamming into the towers and he said it wanted it played often but not so much that we become desensitized to it. Seriously? Do you live in this country in this age? There are god knows how many news channels out there and even if they all played it once or twice it’d be more than plenty to desensitize us, and you know it would never be that simple. Some idiots somewhere would think it was a good idea to play it at least once an hour for all of 9/11 and call it a tribute.
I don’t know about anyone else but I distinctly remember the footage and have seen it enough that day and the weeks following that I don’t care if I ever see it again. I vividly remember the guy jumping out of the building instead of being burned alive and I remember the camera man trying to get a close up shot of him as he fell to his death… GIVE THE MAN SOME FUCKING DIGNITY YOU VULTURE! Was what I remember screaming in my head. I still think to this day that he should have panned to something else.
So as I said, tomorrow is 9/11 and whether we know it or not, if you lived through it and were aware of what was going on it affected you in some way.
