2013!

2013!

Well we made it through the Mayan apocalypse and the fiscal cliff. It’s a new year so let’s see if we can find new direction to make things bigger and better than before!

I really like the look of the World War Z trailer. From what I’ve been told it has almost nothing to do with the book (which I still need to read) but again, it still looks really really cool! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcwTxRuq-uk

I also downloaded and am trying out a screenwriting software called Celtx to try and get book 1 converted to a screenplay. Hopefully, someone, someday will be posting a movie trailer for After the Storm!

Back to work with me, Happy New Year, and enjoy!

Release day!

Release day!

Book 2 is now up on Amazon for kindle. The paperback version takes a bit to catch up so that should be up sometime in the next couple days. In the meantime it can be found in paperback at createspace.com for $7.99. Barnes and Noble seems to be taking a bit longer with the nook version but it will be up there as well as soon as it’s ready.

It’s funny I was so anxious for the last couple days and today it’s here and now I’m looking around like what the fuck? I think I may have been over prepared because now I’m sitting around checking off my list of places to post it and I’m already done and it’s not even noon. This was much more difficult and time consuming the first time around. If I got that much better at this part of it I can only pray that my writing got that much better the second time around… Probably not but one can dream. 🙂

Anyway I guess this frees up a bit of time to go mow the lawn or something else that seems not as fun.

Enjoy your weekend all and don’t forget to pick up Book 2!

Female characters

Female characters

I spent this afternoon writing a few pages, most of it centered around a new female character that I have introduced. When I went out for a smoke something popped into my head that someone had mentioned to me about focusing on and maybe making stronger female characters or just more of them when they were reading my first book (yes, it was a female).

so i went through the females in my books and reviewed them in my head. I have a doctor/nurse who is charge of a whole hospital who knows how to fire a gun competently, and has survived five years past the end of the world.(Have to include the end of the world part for all the girls in the book actually.) Then you have a wife who happens to be one of the best friends of and confidant/adviser to the leader of a clan of over1000 people.  You also have Eva who we only meet briefly but she went to find her sister during the end of the world to help keep her safe, pretty strong I’d say. You also have Mikey’s mom mentioned who we are told works at the hospital, which can’t be easy, as well as the wife of the team leader who slaps the hell out of Mack for getting her husband killed. Lastly you have Sam who is a girlfriend/soon to be wife and mother? who makes sure that her boyfriend stays in line.

Most of these characters also appear in the second book along with at least one new female character that is a clan chief and an ex lawyer. So running all this through my head I have to say that I believe that I have pretty strong  well rounded female characters considering it’s a post apocalyptic, action adventure story told from the point of view of a militaristic clan chief who’s gearing up for war.

This got me thinking about the females in my life. The ones that I spent the most time with and have been the closest to have always been very strong women. Starting with my mom who was always very sickly and had a lung removed at a young age, still managed to raise me and keep my dad in line while never complaining about how sick she was. My best friends in school always ended up being girls and they all tended to have some of the same qualities. They were  all stubborn, opinionated, and very smart. Also, my wife is a pediatric nurse who deals with children with cancer, as well as possessing all the other qualities I have mentioned. All of these lovely ladies in my life past and present probably explain why my female characters tend to be strong. I may not write enough about them in my books but they are most definitely not weak.

Anyway, back to it, enjoy the day!

The end is nigh

The end is nigh

Well, it isn’t but I wish it was. Funny how many odd looks I get when I say that around some people, but it’s the truth. I really do wish for the end of civilization as we know it. Now you may shake your head in disbelief or gasp at such a horrible thing, because what would the world be without the internet or starbucks or laws for civilized folks to follow or a government to tell us how to act or protect us from blah blah blah…. You know what it would be ? Nirvana, Valhalla, Heaven, call it whatever word for paradise you choose, that’s what it would be for me.

Now I’m sure there are some out there that are like but what if you didn’t have all these great medical leaps to keep you alive and healthy or these hospitals close by in case of an emergency? I’d die, and that’s OK, because with or without them, I’m gonna die someday anyway, we all are.  Wait, but what about the government to protect us and keep us safe? I haven’t needed them yet and most of them are corrupt and make too many stupid laws because people are either too stupid to have common sense or too afraid to stand up for themselves. I on the other hand try to be neither of these things so I see no need for the government or the silly laws they impose on the stupid or cowardly. Nor do I need them to protect me I’d be fine with protecting myself and if I don’t then so be it.

I guess I was just born a few hundred years too late, because to be completely honest I find most of what we call life these days to be boring, tiresome, unhealthy, and down right dishonorable or despicable. people keep telling me that I’m crazy to want to be rid of all these “Incredible” modern conveniences and I keep wondering why I keep talking to sheep.

Truth be told I am not the most in shape of people or one of these healthy lifestyle folks either, but it is because of this “civilized” culture that I am the way I am. Please also understand that I am not blaming the things around me I am just saying that because everything is easy it has made me and most of us incredibly lazy and out of shape compared to previous generations like my grandfather’s era . The older I get the more I understand how much I have let myself down in not taking better care of myself and am trying to rectify said situation, so that if I am lucky enough to see the end of this civilization I will be in good enough shape to survive long enough to enjoy and take advantage of it.

Oh, and if it turns out that I am not fit enough to survive it that is OK as well, it really is.

I truly have not been trying to preach nor do I want to tell anyone how to live their lives. The thoughts above are how I see the world and why I write the post apocalyptic stories that I do. I was just trying to give folks a glimpse into the way my mind works. Hope it was at least enjoyable and maybe even a little thought provoking.

Have a great day!

Oh yeah, the book

Oh yeah, the book

For those that have read the book I’m telling you now this is just to fill people in who may not have read it yet.

I Suppose I should actually post something about the book “After the Storm”.

It is a post apocalyptic novel set five years after a meteor has crashed into Earth. 95% of the population of the US has been effectively wiped out between the meteor, earthquakes, volcanoes, lack of food, sickness and riots. I say US because the main characters have no idea what has happened to the rest of the planet since there is little to no mass communication anymore. The government took it’s best and brightest and hid them in bunkers across the US for two and a half years while the general populace has had to fend for itself.

The story picks up five years after the meteor and is told from the point of view of Duncan Mackenzie or Mack who is the head of a clan that lives in a town just outside of Boston MA. The government has come back in a much smaller capacity and the man in charge is not really someone who should be in charge. In some areas of the country the governments aid was welcome and much appreciated, but in some places, such as the north east it was shunned and met with disdain and violence in some cases.

The story follows Mack and his “clan” as they try and survive in a harsh new world and remain free at the same time.
